Back to school

Cash started first grade a couple weeks ago. We are off to a strong start. It was this time three years ago that my husband and I were becoming concerned of how little Cash was speaking. However, he did start an a-typical pre-school. I remember dropping him off that day with a little concern. "Will he be ok"? " " If he's not, how will he tell someone"? It's around this time we reached out to the Chester County Intermediate Unit. These are the people who will come out and observe and test your child to see what is going on with them. They were just about to come out to do the testing when his pre-school suddenly closed. We had to scramble. We were able to find a well-known school that I actually attended at Cash's age. He felt comfortable and happy there. Over the next month or so Cash was evaluated.

As you know that's when we got the diagnosis. This meant Cash had to switch schools again. We knew moving to the cciu was the right move. We just felt bad for another change in his life. What is so amazing about Cash is that each time he had to start a new school he did it with a smile and excitement. He made the process easy for us. Cash was six weeks into services when the world shut down, March 2020. All kids sent home to learn remotely. That was going to be tricky for him. So, his teachers decided that we would hop on zoom twice a week and they would teach us how to teach Cash at home. We all did the best we could with what we were dealt. Cash's team was there for him and did everything they could to help. Thankfully that July they deemed all kids with special needs could come back to in person learning. That was just in time, I could see that he was going to benefit from the structure. He spent the entire next year at the cciu until it was time to move up and out to kindergarten.

What I love about our school district is that kindergarteners, and first graders are in one building. With all the change that Cash had to endure in his early days of school I was thankful he was settling into one school for the next two years. This year Cash was able to have his same autistic support teacher and aides as last year. The only change was his general education teacher. I think all the changes were harder for us as parents, then for him to actually go through. I will attribute that to his wonderful teachers and support staff over the past three years. From his pre-school, cciu, and now PALC I have nothing but gratitude, love, respect for all who have helped our son along the way. Teachers Do Not get enough credit. Our boy is loved and lifted up by his team of people all day. And then I bet they all go home and do the same to their family. This is my love letter and thanks who have helped Cash in any way through his adventures in school so far. I appreciate you all, Thank you.
